Right but one of those 3 (linode) has been pretty brutally hacked (a number of times, at the control plane level) while DO & AWS have a different security story.

That we know of. For better or worse, we're relying on these companies being transparent about account security issues and compromises.

Perhaps it's just me, but I doubt we are being kept in the loop, especially over something which has such a major impact on customer confidence (as evidenced by the sibling comment & replies).

True, but that is a little exaggerated. Yes, they were hacked in the past (over a year ago); one of their small data centers went down. Their US East center has been solid for the past 8 months that I have been using, no hiccups.

But they were hacked and didn't tell anyone for 6-8 mo even though they knew. So you don't really know they aren't deeply compromised now?

Then the ddoss and offline hosts. it's basically just amateur hour over there.

As opposed to AWS and DO which have never had comparable security issues. In this case, "never" is what I'd expect versus "yeah it's been a few months since last serious incident".

I wouldn't host an ethereum or bitcoin node on Linode. If I were a PCI auditor I would think pretty hard about compliance on the platform.

That said, blog you don't care too much about -- sure!

wow... 8 months? Not being able to get in to your servers for days at a time is not "a little exaggerated".

It was less than a year ago - 11 months. December in to January, Linode data centers, but especially Atlanta, were heavily attacked.

There was another moderate attack a few months ago.

Caused no end of headache for some clients of mine.

I like Linode, and have used them for some projects in the past, but there are more options now.

I wish I could say the same for US South (Atlanta). Constant DDoS attacks, outages, power failures, hardware failures, and more. I don't think I've ever gone longer than 3 months of uptime there across multiple linodes.
