Ask HN: Would you like to have “Was a Sys Admin” written on your tombstone?

I am struggling to find meaning in IT work. I've been in the IT field for 7 years now, 6 years of college and 3 years of working.... and I don't know if the passion just got sucked out of me in school, or if it wasn't in me in the first place...

Currently I am doing Sys Admin job, before I was Java EE programmer, but I never really immersed or rooted myself in the field, because I was/am not sure, if it is the right thing for me.

Could you throw me something, like what is the meaning of your work for you? Would you like having "Sys Admin" in your epitaph? Why? (well, "his uptime has ended" is better, but that is not my question/point).
