Ask HN: How do you manage “non-bankable” investments like private company stock?

I'm curious, how do people here manage their "non-bankable" investments, like equity they've earned or purchased in startups or other private companies?

How do you handle tax reporting? Have you tried borrowing against your equity, or selling it on Secondmarket?
