In an already crowded space, what does this bring me that other libraries don't?

(Reading between the lines, is it something to do with avoiding NVIDIA CUDA? In which case performance comparisons would be really helpful)

This is built in top of CUDA. It's a library with built-in algorithms and components, that seems to aim to ease the pain of writing CUDA apps.

The problem is that the project does little to nothing to explain the features (besides listing them), and why is this any better than other tools on the market.

It looks like a research project, from 2010 and last updated 3 years ago. At the time there were not many frameworks for ML on the GPU.

In context, ML makes great sense as an acronym. The problem is a headline on a news aggregator hasn't much context.

For the curious, this is about a Machine Learning library, not a library for Standard ML, ML with Concurrency, CAML, OCAML, or F#.
