I was excited to learn about OpenOCD from the article. I used to work for a embedded debugger company that sold similar boxes.

Unfortunately, it looks like OpenOCD is dead. The last release was 2017.

v0.11.0-rc2 got released around two weeks ago. But I never had any issues using the v0.10.0 for what it's worth. If your debugger and MCU are supported, there is not much that could go wrong.
