Personally, I find the whole April Fools thing beyond tedious now.
It was mildly amusing when we played tricks on each other as kids. It was slightly amusing when staid institutions like the BBC would slip the occasional spoof article into a TV programme, back then. Likewise when the intarwebs was young and the odd website here and there would try to put one over on us.
Nowadays, every bloody website owner seems to feel compelled to join in. usually with some atrociously unfunny and poorly written attempt, that would fool no-one. So I end up hardly reading any news at all on this day as, scanning down the list of submissions on HN, I just find myself thinking "Probably a crappy attempt at an April Fool" for most of the interesting sounding ones and not even bothering to read them.
So, apologies to anyone discovering a cure for cancer, or life on Mars, on this day and wondering about the lack of interest.
