I'm not too surprised. From people who still participate that I know, the amount of people either not sending or sending garbage gifts has increased a lot. It seems like this is a hold over from that era of the internet when Reddit felt small instead of a top 20 site.

I participated in reddit secret santa twice, 10 years ago. Both times, I sent something out and got nothing. It was a nice idea, and I'm not really salty about it cuz I gave some nice things to strangers and the point of the season is more about giving than getting.

But it never really delivered on its fundamental premise, even when it was small. These were problems that existed a decade ago.
