Which really isn't the person you're replying tos problem. Stereo should just work you shouldn't need to get a center channel.

It might very well be his setup that's causing the problem.

Changing my setup might fix it but people watch a LOT of Netflix on stereo setups. Respectfully, this is their problem.

It depends on what you mean by "stereo setup". In the extremely common scenario of you having a 5.1 amp with just 2 speakers plugged in, it's your amp that's doing the downmix for you.
