I've been doing some reading on nonprofits in tech in particular. As I understand it in broad strokes, the Mozilla Foundation originally did all the development work, and later formed the taxable Mozilla Corporation, and handed over development responsibilities to the Corporation, keeping logos and trademarks at the Foundation.
One advantage seems to be the ability to make unrestricted income, though if I understand right, that all gets reinvested in the Foundation anyway.
More broadly, are there other nonprofits in tech that operate similarly, and why do they do it?
