Ask HN: Smart messaging forums other than HN?

Back in the day Usenet had a wealth of interesting information. Then blogs for a while took over with RSS pings and google reader.

Now the noise seems to be higher than the signal for me in most forums. Where to go for the good intelligent discussion. HN? Twitter (too short)? Reddit subforums?
