For a long time that "spam filtering" has been something like those blue bubbles in iMessage. That is, a way to make sure that if you run your own email server, your friends on Gmail will never see your messages. In the long term it will get them in trouble with the antitrust courts so they have every reason to degrade its effectiveness.
