I continue to think the 3-2-1 meme is the best way to do it
* 3 different copies of storage (1 production 2 backup)
* 2 different media forms (disk and tape traditionally)
* 1 offsite
I'm on the 2:nil model: I have 2 copies, there both disks and they're both in my home. Sucks to be me if a flood or fire happens.
I do pretend my cloud storage is the missing link like everyone else. I have read my google takeout, and its interesting how it grows black holes from time to time. Things mysteriously turn out not to be there, and some lucky people grow data which wasn't there, when they wrote it (hash function collisions across the entire userbase?)
