With all the drama surrounding Reddit at the moment, it's nice to look back to a time when things were so much simpler, and most of the things we had to worry about were just tech.

The state of threading on FreeBSD was so poor that, would you believe it, for a time, FreeBSD was using a port of LinuxThreads (the pre-NPTL posix-like threading library written by Xavier Leroy of OCaml fame, integrated into glibc).

I think that may have still been true in 2005.
