They were curious enough to ask you about it, to make conversation, but without a specific use or utility in mind hadn't (yet?) bothered.

Why did you find this infuriating? There's only so much time in the day; different people have different priorities.

1) they know it's not a 5 minute thing

2) everything is still moving fast. Unless they plan to keep up with it, they may be planning to look into it later after the dust settles a bit

3) their time is already budgeted and it isn't clear what they should skip / cancel to look into it

4) they aren't sure exactly where to start and so they procrastinate. No trusted source has sent them a link to try, they don't want to sift through search results and potential scams, they don't want to make an account, etc

Because they are simply not that interested in trying the new thing. I will drink craft beer, but if someone invented the most amazing craft beer ever, I wouldn't go out of my way to try it even if it was free. I just don't care that much about craft beer. Different people are interested in different things...and that is okay.
