"Girl power, this is not. Barbie reads like textbook Adorno: late capitalism is savvy enough to incorporate its own critiques to inoculate itself from any pushback."
Interesting takes overall; a "hacking/unpacking" of the film that I'll keep in mind when I eventually borrow it from the library for Movie Night.
I'll keep reading bell hooks and Octavia Butler and Alison Bechdel (Fun Home was great- as a man without great father figures, the best and most healthily masculine being Mr. Rogers, I realize as I play those albums for my daughter, I felt some solidarity) and also Romance novels for my ongoing education about how to be a better human being (and of course entertainment, too). If I could travel back in time to give my teenage self some books, Parable of the Sower would be one.
