I find freebsd pleasant for server use. But using it for desktop, probably would not enjoy.
As for slackware, yes :^)
I'm glad you're having fun. But I think most people would give up at the lack of good package management before getting into further shortcomings.
slackware was one of the first linux distros w nice package management that so happened to be similar to a herein unnamed bsd approach that works well :-)
