Autoimmunity Has Reached Epidemic Levels (opens in new tab)

Is it possible that many of these autoimmune diseases are in fact just regular but undiscovered viruses that are slow spreading and have few symptoms?

Perhaps the immune system attacking 'our own cells' is due to those cells being infected.

I'm at a loss for words.
