For file encryption I've heard good things about age. I'm not sure what a good tool for file signing is. Email encryption/authentication is unsolvable.

For those that are interested in 'age' see previous hn thread [0]

That thread suggests (I'm not an expert) there seems to be a problem (with 'age') of overwriting files if you have the public key.
