I remember reading NVDA financial results and thinking wtf:
https://techhq.com/2023/12/why-was-singapore-central-to-nvid...
Reasons for wtf:
- SG in terms of datacenter load in megawatts is a fraction compared to the US. Approx 900ish MW in SG vs 19000 in US. Where are all those GPUs going?
- There's been a shortage of rack space in Singapore due to high demand AND lack of supply due to A.) singapore is tiny, B.) there was a moratorium on new builds. Again, where are all those GPUs going to fit in SG?
- Assuming new GPUs are going into the DCs, presumably that would mean the DCs are having to be retooled to handle higher density rack loads.
I suspect that a lot of those GPUs were purchased in SG and shipped to China. The only other way I could reconcile those numbers is if someone were purchasing the chips and manufacturing cards in SG.
