China's open-source AI strategy is primarily driven by U.S. export controls and geopolitical competition - it's both a way to circumvent restrictions and build global influence while maximizing limited resources.
That's one reason some people do it, but it's far from the only reason. Lots of devs open source their work for reasons that have nothing to do with profit or business models.
