It just doesn't make sense. "There's this new big thing coming that does all your work for you." "Okay?" "So it's imperative that you learn how to do this new thing or you'll never be able to work again."
In reality, the skills needed to use AI effectively are the same ones needed to be a competent programmer in the era of Visual Basic, or CASE, or in the era of COBOL, or any of the other things promised to eliminate junior programmers.
The idea of an engineer "not capable with AI" yet who can somehow hand-write code also baffles me. Do these people actually exist?
