I'm a little skeptical, not because recognizing face-like features is hard (digital cameras have been doing it for years) but because:
1. The source mentioned in the article is not Russia, but "the blogger" at "Dva Mayora" which is "a pro-war Russian military channel."
2. Recognizing a generic face seems like a bad investment when it's so easy to fail because of angle, helmet, or any kind of handkerchief face covering.
