I would suggest there's a bit more to it but rather taboo to bring up. I would suggest quite a number of positions were artificially created to meet quotas for immutable human attributes and AI was a great way to eliminate many of those positions without risking legal fallout. I can only fault them for creating the positions in the first place. They had to know at some point the artificial positions would have to be cleared out thus further disrupting peoples lives more than helping them as they have to make an unplanned move once again.
