Ask HN: Looking for ANDroid phone with SD card this holiday season

With many new phone options this coming holiday season, I'm guessing many of you have an opinion on great reliable Android phone models with SD slot options.

Are there any ANDROID models in particular that interest you? Companies you like to buy and stay away from?

Reviews websites to check out and stay up-to-date (besides cnet/verge/etc.) on best smartphones?

I was considering the new Google Nexus 5, but I have a SD card I want to use and was suggested otherwise.

What is a better ANDROID phone than the Nexus 5 that you would purchase?
