Being "nice" is not the same as being "good". Nice people are often some of the worst specimens.

I will, on occasion, steel-man the positions of others in the comments. I do this, because sometimes their positions are not given a fair shake. I take this to be a good act.

Sometimes what I say is claimed to be obvious. But this is no defect. Indeed, the fault of the interlocutor is that he fails to draw out the implications of the obvious, hence the reminder of the obvious.
