Has to be under $500 and no OS. Will just do a fresh Ubuntu install.
Thanks for the guidance -
I am seeking advice from the community regarding suppliers of T-shirts with Programmable LEDs or shirts that have an erasable area?
Preferrably someone willing to do a small batch (< 100)
Example: http://www.fatwallet.com/HandHeldItems-coupons/offer-528267/
Where can I source this for a small batch (< 100)
Example: http://www.fatwallet.com/HandHeldItems-coupons/offer-528267/
How would you improve it?
Here is what I have installed
Rake .9.2 Compass 0.11.5 Rails 3.0.7 Passenger 3.0.7 + a host of dependencies. My goal is to create an environment with Compass Framework, Passenger and jQuery.
Here are my steps -- Thanks for the feedback!
Create Rails App, Database & Server Instance (1) Run rails new prjName --using blueprint (2) Is httpd.conf file pointing to right file? (3) Delete /public/index.html.erb (4) Update Rakefile if using Rake 0.9.2
module ::applicationName class Application include Rake::DSL end end
module ::RakeFileUtils extend Rake::FileUtilsExt end
(5) Run rake db:create:all (optional)
(6) Run rails g scaffold modelName attr:DataType..
(7) Add to route.rb root :to => 'resource#action'
(8) Run rake db:migrate
(9) Go to migrate folder and confirm contents of date_create_resource.rb
(10) Add gem "rake", "~> 0.9.2" to Gemfile
Set up jQuery, Compass and Finish Up
(11) Run compass init rails add generated statement to Gemfile
(12)
Add gem "jquery-rails", "~> 1.0.12" to Gemfile (13)
Run rails generate jquery:install --ui (14)
Run compass init rails (to generate a sass folder)? I should not have to do this? Any Compass Users please help me understand why this is the case...
(15) Place js references in ERB file <%= javascript_include_tag"javascripts/jquery.min.js"%> <%= javascript_include_tag "javascripts/jquery-ui.min.js"%> <%= javascript_include_tag "javascripts/jquery-ui.min.js"%>
(16) Review, update Gemfile (jQuery, rake, compass)
(17) Update the compass.rb file
(18) Run bundle install
(19) Restart the server sudo apachectl graceful
You've walked the walk and I am trying to do the same. I started off as the proverbial idea guy, then got sucked into the awesomeness that is building a service.
But now I need to do some freelancing work.
I pitched a few folks and got a gig, but now I need to put together a proposal and include a work-for-hire contract and maintenance agreement.
So the ask should be obvious by now: Can direct me to, or allow me to use these materials? I am sure you know what should be in there but for clarity sake, it should include the following activities:
1. Work-for-hire to build website, including hosting 2. Maintenance Agreement which enables me to specify the activities and the the spec. period
A mock template for a website proposal that looked professional would be extremely helpful!
Cheers folks!
So, anyone know a place where I can purchase a bike online fit for an HN reader? What gadgets would you put on it?
For your recommendations, I'd prefer to give my $ to a local shop (NYC) or a small shop with competitive prices. Seeking a bike for daily use with trail/road tyres.
I say all this because I am noticing a trend. Social enterprises and non-profit tech companies models get short shrift. We embrace MVPs, ask great questions but we don't really lift up the MANY of us who use their time, talent and treasure to directly impact social problems. Some members, like myself, have dedicated entire projects to social entrepreneurship and non-profits. Don't believe me-here are a few y have missed these posts you may have missed related to the subject-

I don't consider myself a homer, who thinks slapping a label of social enterprise onto a business makes their founders, product or business model 'good' or deserving of your support. Google Docs, online tuts and cheap computers have done more good in my life than any NGO. I feel pretty fortunate for that, but I also realize my perspective and experience is not the norm. So with some of the brightest minds in the world, right here, maybe we can do the 'possible' to keep those of us working in the space in mind?
Here is what I propose-instead of losing threads related to non-profit and social entrepreneurial world on HN, lets use 'Serve HN:' as a standard way to identify posts.
Folks wanting feedback, support et al for non-profit and technology for social good startups, blogs, MVPs, etc could tag posts in this manner.
