I have come to understand that I really enjoy reading about difficult concepts and then meticulously explaining them to others in a clear manner. I have started blogging about Lisp and it’s proven to reasonably well received (link below). I would love to consider a career shift and become a technical writer, does anybody have any tips on how to do so? I am approaching my mid 30s so not sure if it’s possible to make the switch into the profession (and whether it will be stable enough for all the usual expenses one accrues by this age).

I am also happy to volunteer for any of your projects, if it helps me get experience and references.

I am enjoying Twitter a lot. I use it for maybe 5 minutes every few days (no notifications so I only login when I remember), and I see some interesting posts from people I like, press a couple of hearts and a retweet here or there.

Because I get to choose who I am following and it’s relatively impersonal so I don’t feel obliged to reply / acknowledge the message and so forth. The benefits of one to many communication.

So I wanted to ask if this was a general trend and more people are enjoying Twitter, more in a relative sense in comparison to its own history and in comparison to its peers in social media.

It’s always on my list to give back to the community / broader society. But I often put it off or feel like I am not doing enough. The easiest way is to financially support some charities or even OSS / FSF projects, but while I do that to a minor amount, it feels not enough and also feels like a tax vs a genuine effort to give back. It’s very easy to get caught up in a busy day or week and then this becomes out of sight and out of mind.

Other things I was thinking was mentoring or providing knowledge to others.

I would be very grateful and keen to hear of ideas of how to give back both financially and also non financially?
