A spin-off of the question: Ask HN: What are the best articles on managing people you've ever read?

Driving people not directly reporting to you in essential in many roles asuch as architects, product folks or just senior staff. Would be very happy to hear your resources and thoughts

I currently read "how to make friends and influence people", this and many other soft-skills books/trainings offer concepts and ideas of how one should act in a business/social conversations.

I always struggle with applying those concepts in real life, I cannot stop and think about what is the most appropriate reaction for a situation and I quickly forget and get overwhelmed with concepts and ideas from the book.

How did you apply similar concepts in real-life scenarios, and what ideas worked best for you?

On every open source project under the contribution section there is a note that everyone can contribute, and usually it says that even people with no background in programming can help, usually in tasks such as proofreading, documentation, supports, etc.

I always wanted to know, who are you non programmers who participate in open source projects? whats your background? how you got into this? how did you choose the project you contribute to? and what exactly do you do there?

I know HN is owned by Y-Combinator. But, as a popular and homogeneous platform there must be many possible ways to earn from it. So what is HN's business model and how its value is measured?

As a developer, I work with many systems and services. Each one has special configuration, parameters, flows, inputs, etc.

Sometimes, after even few days of not working on a task, I have to spend some time in remembering what to do, how to run stuff, the flows, etc. What are your best practices/methods to reduce this remembrance/recovering time?

As a software developer, I sometimes need to join different existing running projects.

Most of the time we use Java, where polymorphism, inheritance, and reflection make it a hell to follow (even with a debugger). Most of the code is not documented of course.

Approaches and relevant programs would be welcomed
