And wanted to ask again to hear people's latest recommendations! I've read a number of the recommendations and found them fascinating.

Excluding the Hadoop ecosystem, I see some references to MapReduce in other database and analysis tools (e.g., MatLab). My perception was that Spark completely superseded MapReduce. Are there just different implementations of MapReduce and the one that Hadoop implemented was replaced by Spark?

I'm a non-technical PM, have taken CS 101-202 type courses in college but never written production code. I'd like to be more "technical" in the sense, understand the basics of databases and backend systems work, what goes into building them, etc.

Are there any resources/books that I should read? Relatively vague ask I know. Thinking of reading something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Computer-Architecture-Organization-architectures

Currently read the mainstream things: Stratechery, Wired, Verge, Arstechnica, etc. but looking to diversify my sources in 2024. Any recommendations?
