Are you familiar with the story of (failed) attempt of Google competing with YouTube? I vaguely recall seeing on Twitter a leaked email exchange where a PM wanted to hire "a Java guy" to be ready to compete with YouTube.
Are you familiar with that story? Any tips on finding this on Twitter? Is this something Grok is good at?
I bookmarked a while ago this thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29606476 with the intent, that if I'm going to Munich again, I'd maybe propose meeting up for lunch (I have bit of a similar background as the OP).
I'm going to Munich next week and wanted to follow up on my idea. Responding to that old thread seems to be disabled (HN policy?). Can I resurrect commenting or reach out to OP somehow?
The paper describes a profile of key enzymes enabling virus activity. Interestingly, these enzymes are not known to be present in humans meaning that disabling their activity would kill the virus without affecting humans' biology.
I listened to Marcin Drąg's (one of the authors) press conference yesterday where he said the most promising short-term path to put this discovery into work is searching for existing already approved drugs that might inhibit this enzyme. In other words: retarget an existing drug to work against COVID-19 which would have a tremendous medical and economic impact if worked.
Does anyone understand what are the key challenges in matching a drug to enzyme profile? I wonder if a small team of software people could help? I've read a bit about people using deep learning approaches for both discovering and matching drugs but I lack domain specific knowledge to understand if it's relevant here.
Who is Müller-Wohlfahrt? A pretty famous and sometimes controversial sport medicine doctor. He is currently German national football team doctor. In the past he helped Bono and Usain Bolt dedicated his 2016 gold medal to Muller.
Why I'm trying to contact Muller? I've taken a break from work in Bay Area and I moved to Basel for summer to take care of chronic hamstring injury. The injury proved to be a real mystery and we're running out of ideas. My physio suggested Muller as a person worth a shot. I tried calling Muller's office but he is not really accessible to general public. I tracked down the people Muller works with, including a professor that operated Bono and I crafted emails inspired by Tim Ferris techniques for reaching important people. To no avail.
Who am I? I work at Stripe. In the past I worked on the team that made Scala.
I hope somebody form Germany or somebody with contacts in football world will read this post and help me. In exchange, I would publish the story of meeting Muller which I think would be really interesting. You can think of my recovery as an exponential escalation process and Muller seems to be the peak point: he is at the top of his profession.
If you're curious, I've been writing about my recovery for a while on Medium: https://medium.com/@gkossakowski/hamstring-pull-recovery-week-1-4e0bd949c7a7
It looks like advances in computer vision of recent years make such a product possible to make and I'm surprised I can't find a company doing "spreadsheets for the real world".
Have you heard of one or have ideas where to look?
