I'm about to start a degree in computer science + political science and need a laptop. I want something small and light but I'm poor. Should I get the new Macbook Neo or a second hand X1 carbon from 3-4 years ago.

I try and keep subscriptions down to a minimum, although there are several that I think are essential to my workflow. I'm interest to know what everyone's essential subscriptions are.

Mine are Excalidraw, Mermaid, and ChatGPT.

If you're working on something that requires inputs from other people, how do you keep track of their input. If I'm waiting for something for longer than a day, I'm prone to just forgetting about it. It seems strange putting it on my todo list if it's something I don't actually need to do.

I realised it's faster for me to write quickly and then rewrite a corrected and refined version a second time than it is for me to take my time making corrections as I go. It made me wonder if other people have any tricks that help them write efficiently.

Some activities need little mental effort such as playing certain video games. With practice, you improve at them. The same idea applies to useful skills like typing or solving maths problems, which have practical benefits. What other activities could someone do that are either helpful for an engineer or generally useful and need little thought?
