Im curious to know if anyone can share their experience using a 27" (2560x1440)high res monitor vs 2x24" (1920x1200) monitors. Im a UI designer/developer so im constantly battling with real estate issues.
My main concerns are: 1. Is 27" too much screen panel glaring in my face? 2. Is using two monitors rotated in portrait mode comfortable for long term use? Do you find the bezel and having the screen split annoying?
Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!
As many of you here, I sit at my desk for extended periods of time so my thinking is that I would combine a daily session of standing and sitting in a good chair. For the chair, I was thinking of sticking with a SteelCase Leap. I saw this thread earlier today (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2518898).
I'm thinking about investing in an electronically height adjustable desk by Steelcase. ve seen a lot of DIY options too but (I think) I'd rather not mess around adjusting the height manually since I do have 2 monitors and a bunch of other stuff.
I'm curious to know about: How long you can typically stand and do work? Do you catch your shifting your weight to one side due to fatigue? Do you use and still use the standing desk religiously or did it turn into one of those fad ideas?
I'd appreciate any thoughts, comments and experiences. Thanks!!
For the last few years, I've been venturing into the consulting business, I mainly do UX focused web development and have built some mobile apps for my clients. It started as part-time freelance work and has slowly built up where I have a business partner and a few good people working with me on a part-time basis. I really want this to grow so I can stop moonlighting and treat this as a full-time gig (hard to do with the high cost of living in the bay area).
I've been trying to "network" and "meet people" but even at the last event (Vmworld), but everybody seemed chummy chummy with each other, the bloggers had their circle, the sales folks had their own circle and as an introverted "tech" guy, I couldn't create an opportunity for myself to jump into a conversation. I ended up talking to a few people but it all ended in small talk.
So HNers, I look to you guys for some advice. How do you approach people to initiate the conversations? I know having a hook helps, any other tactics worth noting?
