I always felt pitty for those poor souls being crushed after they are told that no, they won't be winning American Idol.

It felt weird because the chances are so slim that one would assume that not winning should not come as a surprise or a shocker. Still they cry. Most seemed to be convinced they were "destined" to win. That clearly can not be the case.

Now, the 14,000+ companies that applied to Startup School made me think that I might be inside a similar reality distortion field.

I know that in the "unicorn contest" there can be multiple winners, and that is a big difference, but at the end the chances are still so slim...

I am trying to open a business bank account for my startup in the US. We formed as a Delaware LLC and our main office is in South America. So far I always got to dead ends regarding the account opening online. Apparently it is dead simple if I just walk into a bank, but I won't be traveling to the US for a couple of months... SVB was of no help either : ( I will appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

Some ad targeting features are getting really specific. Like Facebook's "Planning a trip > to Rio de Janeiro".

Everyone can see how Facebook could be figuring who this people are by itself. But I am wondering if third party cookies in advertiser sites are not involved (which surely have a ton of potential for Facebook).

If this is true big companies are surely helping out smaller players (advertently or not) and Facebook, Google and the like, are selling the advertisers' information to others. Brokering the data provided by the companies running this ads.

Say I go to Tripadvisor and search for hotels in Rio. Surely enough I go to Facebook and the ads for this hotels keep coming up... But now Facebok knows that I am planning a trip to Rio, which enables any other advertiser to target the same people.

I obviously can imaging that some of the big ad players have already thought of this; and it may be the case that the information provided by means of third party cookies is restricted for use of the advertiser only,... or not?
