I've been writing software for quite some time, and one piece of advice I hear a lot for improving is "read lots of code, write lots of code, repeat".

I get writing lots of code-- but reading lots of code? I'm not so sure.

What are your thoughts?

A young version of yourself is about to start their career and you can give them three books, but only three books, what would they be?

I read within a job description, "...open floor plans inspire a constant exchange of ideas, advice, and banter.". Is it just me, or do all of those things make you cringe when you're thinking about actually getting work done?
