From what I can tell the internet has always had a general sensibility of cynicism.

And if you want to be upvoted/agreed with a lot you should post a cynical view.

It seems that cynicism is seen as intelligence and optimism is seen as naivity.

Yet there is no concept of naive cynicism

Why is this?

Do you think it’s possible to make a better version control system than Git?

Or is it a solved problem and Git is the endgame of VCS

Whenever I see discussion of stuff like ChatGPT it seems like there is this common assumption that it will get better every year.

And in 10-20 years it’ll be capable of some crazy stuff

I might be ignorant of the field but why do we assume this?

How do we know it won’t just plateau in performance at some point?

Or that say the compute requirements become impractically high
