Around a month ago DDG announced they would be "down ranking" Russian disinformation (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30627892&p=3).

This sounds like it should just be lower in the search results, however that is not the case.

Searching for "tass bucha" has no results from tass.com. In fact "site:tass.com bucha" gives zero results.

Meanwhile Google has no issues displaying these results.

Tass is not even banned on an EU level like RT and Sputnik are.

Turns out it is not possible to search for the other sides story on DDG and Bing. Google wins again..

We are 3 people (2 developers + 1 trader) who are making trading tools intended to trade our own capital.

So far we have a desktop application which is a UI for the trader to interact with. And a modular monolith for the backend with MongoDb as a database. We also have a number of jobs that need to be run on the regular (mostly to keep required data up to date in mongo). All the source is in C#.

We only have a local environment. We want to expand to have a development and a production environment. What is the best way to do this?

We have some CI, but how do we do CD? Where should we run the backend? How do we deploy the UI to the traders desktop?

We want to keep the costs low and we got burned by an unexpected bill when trying to run this on Azure (which Microsoft luckily waived). We considered having a script which the trader runs which will essentially do a git pull and then run the build and run scripts. But that way we lose control over the backend.

So with covid everyone is working remotely. However life is life and due to personal circumstances I need to be in Belarus for a few months. My work has already said that I can only work from Ireland.

My question is, theoretically if I was to get a VM in Ireland, remote to it from Belarus, and then remote into work. That should work as my work PC in Dublin will get the connection from some data centre in Ireland.

Has anyone done something similar? Anyone see any issues?

I am an active member in a number of overlapping friend groups. Some as small as 3 best friends, others are 10ish people we go on holidays with.

I was thinking has anyone set up or even better wrote software/ systems where the use case is private usage by a group of friends?

I have had two ideas, but looking for stories and inspiration.

My first is a holiday planner that we can fully customise to our process of planning a holiday, this would save links and discussions all over WhatsApp/discord/ google sheets/ you name it.

The second is a private photo server we can run. Have tools that help migrate photos onto our servers and have a convenient way to tag them (people, event etc) in a few sittings. Then have a nice ui with a filter for those tags.

What do you guys think?
