I ask because it is difficult to determine whether a marketer will actually increase conversions, and a commission based payment can possibly provide incentive to a person who believes they can succeed in marketing a given product.
I'm curious if such a strategy would work, as it is relatively low risk for both parties. My particular site is a service paid by monthly membership fees, so I would be willing to give the payments up of the first month or two in hopes that customers would stick around for longer.
I'd be interested to know if anyone had worked under such a scenario, or if there are practical reasons why it would not work.
The site in question is www.tracktacular.com
Recently I decided to take a shot and change course from working on this as a hobby to trying to make a side business out of it. I'm immune to worrying about whether it succeeds or fails because I use it extensively for myself, but I think it has value for people who like to track things and stay organized.
Anyway, I offer a subscription service to use the site, and I'm just now getting ready to try to market it. But its inherently difficult to market because the site is essentially an aggregation of smaller applications that may or may not already exist as standalone apps. Because the site contains so many trackers, putting an individual tracker head to head against one built specifically for that purpose (ie my Task Tracker vs Remember The Milk), my tracker will have less features. This was an intentional decision to keep things simple, but again it makes it difficult to market individual trackers (unless they dont exist).
I'm looking for some advice on how I might go about marketing this. I'm going to consider simple ads on either forums, google adwords, etc to start. I also implemented a referral system to hopefully persuade users to do some of the marketing themselves, although that will take time to be effective.
If you are curious, the site is called https://www.tracktacular.com
I should mention that I originally started working on this as a site entirely for me, but over time wondered if others might find it useful. As such I don't have any income strategies yet, this is more of trying to find out whether the idea has merit.
Thanks for your advice. www.tracktacular.com
I know the business is capable of doing better, but I have moved on to building other projects and don't really want to spend the time marketing this site. Is there any way to reliably hand off the marketing of the site to another party, or is this a scenario where it will really only do better if I invest more of my time personally in it?
I know there are a lot of things that need to be done but its difficult to focus on a strategy when you arent sure where to begin. Any advice would be appreciated.
